In light of the Israel-Hamas conflict, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone, voicing his concerns about terrorist attacks and the death toll among civilians.
PM Modi posted on X, “Good exchange of perspectives with President @raisi_com of Iran on the difficult situation in West Asia and the Israel-Hamas conflict. Terrorist incidents, violence and loss of civilian lives are serious concerns. Preventing escalation, ensuring continued humanitarian aid and early restoration of peace and stability are important.”
The Iranian leader responded by requesting that the Indian government mediate and aid in settling the dispute.
The upgrades at Chabahar Port, which is strategically significant to India and is located on the Makran coast in Sistan and Baluchistan Province, were also discussed.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), both leaders emphasised the importance of "preventing escalation, ensuring continued humanitarian aid and early restoration of peace and stability."
“Welcomed the progress in our bilateral cooperation, including on the Chabahar port,” PM Modi said.
President Raisi, informed Prime Minister Modi that Tehran is in favour of any joint international effort to bring about an immediate truce, reduce the siege, and offer assistance to the oppressed people of Gaza.
The Iranian president's office released a press statement stating that he added the atrocities in Gaza had outraged people all over the world and that if the massacre persisted, it would have transregional consequences.
President Raisi further urged PM Modi, to use 'all of its capacities' to halt Israel's bombings of Gaza, citing the country's history of fighting against "Western colonialism and its position as one of the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement in the world."
