A set of key MoUs have been signed between India and Singapore to strengthen cooperation between the two countries after a high-level meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart from Singapore Lawrence Wong on Wednesday 4 September 2024. The MoUs will extend to critical areas including digital technologies, semiconductors, health cooperation, and skill development.
Digital Technologies Collaboration
One of the major MoUs signed was between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, India, and the Ministry of Digital Development and Information, Singapore, for cooperation in areas of digital technologies including digital public infrastructure, cyber-security, and 5G; emerging technologies in supercomputing, quantum computing and artificial intelligence; and action plans for up-skilling and re-skilling manpower in the digital domain.

Partnership in Semiconductor Ecosystem
Another key MoU signed was between the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, India, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Singapore. This allows both countries to work together on developing semiconductor clusters and human resources in semiconductor design and manufacturing, while also attracting investment by Singapore in the Indian semiconductor sector. Singapore has recently been playing a very critical role in the global supply chain for semiconductors, accounting for 10% of the world's output of chips and 20% of semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Health and Medicine Co-operation
The Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Singapore Ministry of Health signed an MoU to cooperate in health and medicine. The agreement will encourage joint research and innovation in healthcare besides enhancing cooperation in human resources development in healthcare and pharmaceuticals. This will also aid India in its efforts to pursue further opportunities for Indian healthcare workers in Singapore.
Education Co-operation and Skill Development
An MoU was also inked between the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of India and Singapore Ministry of Education to further relationship in technical and vocational education and training. The pact has objectives to consolidate the partnership on skill development between both the countries incessantly.

PM Modi Receives Ceremonial Welcome in Singapore
Prime Minister Modi arrived here on a three-day official visit and was accorded a ceremonial reception at Singapore's Parliament House, where he held talks with Prime Minister Wong. Singapore is both a major partner and source of inspiration for countries that are in the process of development
, PM Modi said.
Later, while addressing reporters, Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the two leaders, during their talks, agreed to raise the bilateral relationship into a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in fields such as advanced manufacturing, digitalization, health, and sustainability.

Modi also signed the visitors' book at the Parliament House and met with several ministers and delegates. Later in the day, he will visit the semiconductor facility of AEM Holdings Ltd., accompanied by Singapore's PM, after attending a lunch to be hosted by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. The meetings that Modi has lined up during this visit include those with the President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, and assorted CEOs.
