The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that the first Ministerial meeting of the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) is scheduled to take place in Brussels on May 16. The India-EU Trade and Technology Council's (TTC) first Ministerial meeting will be led by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Communications and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The TTC was introduced in April of the previous year when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, visited India.
This meeting is highly anticipated as it will be the first of its kind and will serve as a platform to foster economic and technological collaboration between India and the European Union. The meeting is a testament to the commitment of both sides to strengthen their bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in areas such as strategic technologies, digital connectivity, green energy, trade, investment, and resilient value chains. The presence of high-level officials from both sides is expected to give a significant impetus to this cooperation.
In the aftermath of the launch, both sides formed three working groups under the TTC, with the first group focused on strategic technologies, digital governance, and digital connectivity. The second group is dedicated to green and clean energy technologies, while the third group concentrates on trade, investment, and resilient value chains. The MEA statement highlights that the working groups have been in constant communication at various levels and have already held meetings leading up to the Brussels ministerial meeting.
The upcoming meeting is expected to strengthen the economic and technological ties between India and the European Union, particularly in the areas of strategic technologies, digital connectivity, and green energy. The bilateral relationship between India and the EU has been a priority for both sides, and the TTC is considered a significant step in this direction. The Brussels ministerial meeting is expected to build upon the existing cooperation and elevate it to new heights.
