First day of When We Were Young Vegas festival called off due to High Wind Warnings

When We Were Young festival organizers in Las Vegas were forced to announce that Saturday's events would be cancelled owing to concerns that fans attending the acts may literally be blown away—not by the toe-tapping power of an invitation to join The Black Parade, but by, well, wind. Tossing them away.

According to Pitchfork, Day One of the event was cancelled on Saturday morning as a result of a wind advisory issued by the National Weather Service for its Vegas site. It was stated that the Saturday prediction had been upgraded to a High Wind Warning, which indicated persistent winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour with the potential for gusts of 60 miles per hour. The organizers had been preparing for a high-wind day regardless, but they were forced to cancel.

Many people revealed they had travelled from overseas to attend the festival, and reactions ranged from fury to confusion. Some people questioned why the news hadn't been made earlier.

For those who bought their tickets through When We Were Young's official ticketing system, refunds would be made available in "as short as 30 days." The festival's organizers also expressed confidence that Sunday, October 23, and the following Saturday, October 29, the festival's second and third days, respectively, will each have favourable weather conditions that will allow those dates to go on as scheduled.

When We Were Young is now in its first year. This year's event will feature performances by Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, The Alkaline Trio, and, of course, My Chemical Romance, who recently began their long-awaited reunion tour. The festival, which is being organized by Live Nation, was initially scheduled as a single-day event, but it was pushed out to extra dates due to strong public demand. It was a pity then that the eagerly anticipated event had to be called off.
