It's pretty concerning that there have been over 500 mass shootings in the US this year alone. It's clear that something needs to be done to address the issue of gun violence. Unfortunately, lawmakers haven't been able to agree on stricter gun control laws resulting in such incidents.
According to a recent BBC report, there has been a significant increase in gun ownership in the US in recent years. A study published in February by the Annals of Internal Medicine revealed that between January 2019 and April 2021, approximately 7.5 million US adults became new gun owners. As a result, around 11 million individuals now have access to firearms in their households, including 5 million children. Interestingly, nearly half of the new gun owners during this period were women, while approximately 40% were either black or Hispanic.
