Have you ever accidentally washed a currency note in your pocket? We have all been there, but those days might soon be over.
To combat the staggering cost of printing and the destruction of over 23.8 billion damaged notes annually, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is planning to introduce polymer (plastic) notes.
These new notes will be as flexible as paper but will be resistant to water, dust, and dirt.
With advanced security features, making counterfeit copies will be nearly impossible.
Over 60 countries worldwide have already successfully adopted plastic currency, and India is gearing up for a pilot project beginning with ₹10 and ₹20 notes.
