PM Modi remotely inaugurates the Delhi-Meerut-Ghaziabad, RRTS corridor

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually launched the 17-kilometer extension of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, which runs from Duhai to Modi Nagar North. On this stretch, Modi will also launch the Namo Bharat train from the Muradnagar RRTS stop.

An official from the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) was quoted as saying, "With the inauguration of this additional 17-km section, Namo Bharat services will be seamlessly available on 34 km of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS corridor, incorporating eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar North."

PM Modi to virtually inaugurate

Since PM Modi is now in West Bengal to inaugurate various projects, he virtually inaugurated the additional part of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor and launched the "Namo Bharat train" from the Muradnagar RRTS station via video conference from Kolkata. Hardeep Singh Puri, a union minister, will also be present for the inauguration.

It is projected that the 82 km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor will drastically cut the time it takes to travel from Delhi to Meerut to less than an hour.

Beyond the operational priority segment, a further 17 km of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS line is scheduled to open for service, running from Duhai to Modi Nagar North. Three stations are part of this extension: Modi Nagar North, Modi Nagar South, and Murad Nagar.

The RRTS corridor

In March 2019, the Prime Minister set the groundwork for India's first RRTS corridor, which will connect Delhi and Meerut. In October 2023, passenger operations started. At the same time, Modi launched the Namo Bharat RapidX train, which will link Duhai Depot and Sahibabad RapidX Station in Ghaziabad.

The recently added 17-km portion of the Namo Bharat train service, as reported by PTI, extends the reach of the Delhi–Meerut RRTS corridor beyond its initial operational priority section. It is anticipated that this development will improve regional connectivity, making local transport more easy and convenient. With a 180 km/h design speed and a 160 km/h operating speed, the RRTS has two different speeds.
