Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman unveiled several measures on July 23 to address the challenges of unemployed youth, small businesses, and the middle class. These initiatives also aimed to bolster the ruling NDA coalition by supporting various investment projects in Bihar and Andhra Pradesh. This budget marks Ms. Sitharaman’s seventh consecutive Budget and the first for the BJP-led NDA government since their re-election in June.
While BJP allies commended the Budget, the Opposition criticized it, labeling it a political maneuver to appease key allies, the Janata Dal (United) and Telugu Desam Party, without adequately addressing high unemployment and inflation. They also claimed that non-NDA-ruled states were neglected. MPs from the INDIA alliance planned to protest against the Budget today.
In today's Lok Sabha session, Union Ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw, G. Kishan Reddy, Rao Inderjit Singh, Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Shripad Naik are scheduled to present documents. The house will also discuss the Union Budget and the Budget for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir for 2024-2025.
