Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has married journalist Nidhi Razdan; the couple announced it on Saturday through posts on X. The ceremony took place on Friday, October 30, and was a private, family-only affair.
Sharing a set of wedding pictures, Abdullah, 56, wrote: “A new journey began yesterday,” tagging Razdan in the post. Razdan, 49, shared the pictures on her own account with a light-hearted message: “It’s done, bro.”
What the couple said
Their posts were brief and warm. Abdullah’s caption marked the occasion with a ring emoji and a tag for his wife. Razdan’s reply, in the casual tone her followers know, confirmed that the two had exchanged vows. Neither post gave details of the ceremony itself.
Who attended
The celebrations were reportedly small and limited to close relatives. Abdullah’s parents, National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and Mollie Abdullah, were present along with his three sisters and other family members. Razdan’s parents, veteran journalist M K Razdan and Sarla Razdan, also attended.
Where it took place
Reports differ here. Most accounts say the wedding was held in Srinagar after a small family gathering, but at least one report places it in New Delhi. The couple’s own posts did not specify a location.
Background
Abdullah has been Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir for a second time since October 2024, after the National Conference-led alliance won the Assembly elections. He previously served from 2009 to 2014, when Jammu and Kashmir was still a state.
His earlier marriage to Payal Abdullah had been the subject of legal proceedings over several years. Reports say the Supreme Court dissolved that marriage by mutual consent earlier this year, about three months before the wedding. We have not gone into the details of that case, which is a private family matter.
Razdan is a well-known journalist who worked for about two decades, from 1999 to 2020, reporting on Indian politics, international affairs and Jammu and Kashmir. She is also the author of Left, Right and Centre: The Idea of India, published in 2017.
