Khargone Youths Build 200-Foot Temporary Bridge for Narmada Parikrama Pilgrims in Madhya Pradesh

10 Young Men Build 200-Foot Floating Bridge for Narmada Pilgrims in MP

In an inspiring example of community spirit, ten youths from Bakawa village in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district have built a 200-foot temporary bridge to help devotees undertaking the sacred Narmada Parikrama.

Rising backwaters had submerged the Khadkai river crossing under nearly six feet of water, making it difficult for pilgrims to cross. With no permanent solution in place for years, the youths built a floating bridge using 40 plastic drums, bamboo, ropes and iron pipes at a cost of approximately ₹1.6 lakh.

The group has been creating this temporary structure for four consecutive years and now hopes to build a permanent bridge for around ₹3 lakh. With over 500 pilgrims expected to use the crossing daily after Diwali, their initiative is drawing widespread appreciation.
