NEET-UG 2024 Live Updates: Supreme Court posts the NEET matter to July 18

On Thursday, July 11, the Supreme Court was scheduled to resume hearing several petitions about alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the National Eligibility Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024.

Meanwhile, on July 10, the Union government filed a new affidavit in the court, vehemently opposing the demand for a retest. On Wednesday, the Center informed the Supreme Court that "no abnormality" was discovered in the NEET-UG 2024 results data analytics, and "that there is neither any indication of mass malpractice nor a localized set of candidates being benefitted leading to abnormal scores." Additionally, it claimed that a thorough report by IIT-Madras invalidates claims of widespread malpractices or illegal benefits given to candidates at a few chosen centres.

Previous SC Hearing's Highlights

In its first hearing on July 8, the bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud questioned the Centre and NTA about the actions they had taken to identify the beneficiary students of the misconduct and asked for a status report from the CBI regarding the updates on the investigation. Additionally, the Supreme Court ordered NTA and Center to file affidavits by July 10 at 5 p.m.

“The fact that the sanctity of exam has been compromised is beyond doubt. It is an admitted fact. The nature of the leak is what we are considering. The leak cannot be disputed. The consequences of it is what we are considering.”
