In a tragic incident Tuesday afternoon around 5 pm three laborers lost their lives and one got injured. An under-construction temporary structure of steel and concrete collapses at the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train construction site near Rajupura village, Anand district of Gujarat. The under-construction structure collapsed, trapping workers beneath heavy concrete blocks.
The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited NHSRCL is in charge of the project. Anand SP Gaurav Jasani said, "Preliminary information was that four workers got stuck under the concrete blocks. Subsequently, our rescue teams performed a rescue operation." Steel and concrete blocks meant for the foundation work of the bullet train project fell down. Officials said that an inquiry would be conducted into the causes of the mishap.
Two bodies were recovered from the site and the other two laborers were rushed to the hospital. After they were pulled out from under the rubble, according to district fire officer Dharmesh Gor. "The NHSRCL team and villagers helped in the rescue as the concrete blocks were too heavy," he added, cranes and excavators were used during the rescue. The deceased include Ranjit Yadav from Bihar, Kanu Dahya Solanki from Vasad and Prahlad Baria from Panchamhall, Gujarat. Another similar case occured last year in August as well, when one worker lost his life and six others were injured when a launching crane collapsed at a bullet train project site near Vadodara in Karjan.
