Karnataka Braces for 12-Hour Statewide Bandh Organized by Pro-Kannada Groups

The ongoing Cauvery River water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka remains a highly debated matter. Recently, the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) has requested Karnataka to release 5,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu for 15 days. However, Karnataka has expressed its inability to comply due to lower rainfall in the Cauvery catchment area, which includes parts of Kerala, resulting in insufficient water inflow into the reservoir. Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government firmly believes that the river is a shared resource and should not be unjustly deprived of its rightful allocation.

Originating in the Talakaveri region of Karnataka, the Cauvery River gracefully flows through Tamil Nadu before gently reaching the Bay of Bengal. In response to this situation, Bengaluru was recently temporarily affected due to peaceful protests over the Cauvery River water dispute with Tamil Nadu. Consequently, a 12-hour statewide bandh has been organized in Karnataka by 'Kannada Okkuta', a collective organization of pro-Kannada groups. This bandh will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The protest involves a significant procession scheduled to take place from City Hall to Freedom Park in Bangalore. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the Uber Ola Owners and Drivers Association will arrange a Nayandahalli rally at the City Hall. Pro-Kannada groups have also issued a caution about potential blockades on national highways and at airports. As per the leader of 'Kannada Okkuta', Vatal Nagaraj, buses, taxis, and autos are expected to lend their support to the bandh.

It is kindly requested to note that protests are only permitted at Freedom Park and protesters will be kindly urged to take responsibility for any potential property damage in the area. In response to this situation, all schools, colleges, and educational institutions in Bangalore have been kindly granted a holiday.

In light of these recent developments, over 50 individuals associated with this organization have been apprehended. The police department assured that they have enough staff and will take steps to ensure that the situation remains under control and no untoward incidents occur.
