The Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched its first-ever multinational exercise, 'Tarang Shakti', in Sulur, Tamil Nadu. This landmark event marks a significant milestone in showcasing India's defence capabilities, with the indigenous LCA Tejas taking a leading role.
Exercise Details
There will be two stages to this exercise:
First Phase: Sulur, Tamil Nadu (August 6–14)
Second Phase: Jodhpur, Rajasthan (August 29–September 14)
Participants and Objectives
Air forces from the US, Germany, France, and other nations will participate in this large-scale event, making it the largest multilateral air exercise ever conducted in India. Around 30 countries, including 10 actively participating with their assets and 18 as observers, are expected to join the exercise.
1. Showcasing India's Defence Prowess: The exercise aims to demonstrate India's move towards 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance) in defence.
2. Complex Missions: Designed to enhance mutual understanding of air operations, air power applications, and practising multiple combat scenarios in a realistic environment.
3. International Cooperation: An opportunity to strengthen strategic relationships, share best practices, and learn from each other.
Indigenous and foreign assets
The IAF will showcase its indigenous fighter planes, including the LCA Tejas, Mirage 2000, and Rafale. In addition, the Prachand light combat helicopter, the Dhruv advanced light helicopter, and its armed version, Rudra, will participate. Foreign air forces will deploy a variety of aircraft, including F-18s, F-16s, Rafales, and typhoons.
Bangladesh's participation is uncertain.
The ongoing political crisis in Bangladesh has cast uncertainty over its participation. Despite this, the Bangladesh Air Force was initially scheduled to join the second phase of the exercise. The situation remains fluid, and it is yet to be confirmed whether Bangladesh will participate.
