On the 26th of October, a very, let's say unique incident took place in Gujarat's Valsad district. An 18-year-old boy decided to get a haircut - an unconventional one at that. He decided to opt for a "fire haircut". In this particular style the barber doesn't use scissors, instead uses fire to cut the hair and give it style.
This method grew as a trend back in 2015, apparently, the fire haircut helps get rid of your split ends. But it wasn't this that made the trend so famous. It was the daring and scary aspect of it that seemed to draw attention from everyone.
Last Wednesday, when the boy was getting his fire haircut done, the barber lost control and his head caught on fire. As they were not able to put the fire out instantly the boy suffered severe burns. He also has burns on his upper chest and neck due to the chemical which was used in the process.
A friend of his who was present at the time recorded the entire incident on his phone. The 18-year-old is being treated at Surat's government hospital. The police are investigating the chemical used in the process and are waiting to take a statement from the victim.
Investigating officer Karamsinh Makwana said, "We are trying to get the statement of the victim. He was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Valsad. We have learnt that from there he was taken to a hospital in Surat."
It is rumoured that the reason why this haircut style is popular is that it is good for the hair - The candle welds the part of the hair that has been cut off, and the keratin inside the hair strengthens. Well, we don't know the truth of that but we sure hope style doesn't surpass safety for those who are looking to stay fashionable for their Insta posts!
