The Gurugram hit-and-run case involving woman biker Shivani Chauhan, popularly known as Sia, has taken a more serious turn after investigators reportedly found that accused Kalyan Bainsla chased her for nearly two kilometres before his car struck her motorcycle on Golf Course Road.

According to findings emerging from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case, Bainsla was allegedly returning from a club with three friends when the incident took place. Investigators are also examining allegations that the men had been drinking before the crash. Blood and urine samples of Bainsla have been sent for testing, with the results awaited.

The developments have added fresh details to an incident that triggered widespread outrage after footage from Sia's motorcycle camera surfaced online.

Bainsla allegedly chased Sia for 2 kilometres

The investigation has reportedly reconstructed the events leading up to the collision. Bainsla was allegedly driving a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, with his cousin Lavnish seated beside him. The vehicle is said to have first encountered Sia near the Sector 53 Metro station.

What followed was reportedly an altercation between the occupants of the car and the biker. Investigators have alleged that Lavnish encouraged Bainsla to pursue Sia. The chase allegedly continued for at least two kilometres before the car struck her motorcycle.

The allegation is significant because it could establish a sequence that went beyond a simple road accident. Police are examining whether the collision was deliberate and whether the events preceding it support the more serious charges included in the case.

The viral footage appears to show the white car following Sia and eventually hitting her motorcycle from behind. The impact sent her and her bike skidding across the road.

Police have also been examining the conduct of the other people travelling in the car at the time. Notices have reportedly been issued to the two other occupants, and their statements are expected to form part of the ongoing investigation.

Four men were reportedly returning from a club

Investigators are looking into the circumstances in which Bainsla and his companions were travelling on Golf Course Road early in the morning.

According to the SIT findings reported so far, Bainsla had been out with three friends and was returning from a club after partying. Investigators have also alleged that all four men had consumed alcohol.

However, the question of whether Bainsla was legally intoxicated at the time of the crash remains subject to forensic testing. His blood and urine samples have been sent for examination, and the final reports are expected to provide evidence on the alcohol-related allegation.

The distinction is important because allegations of drunken driving cannot be treated as established merely on the basis of statements or video footage. The forensic reports and the broader investigation will determine what can be proved.

Meanwhile, the car involved in the incident has been seized by police as investigators examine the vehicle and other available evidence.

Video footage became a crucial piece of evidence

The case gained national attention after Sia shared footage recorded by a camera mounted on her Aprilia RS 457 motorcycle.

The video reportedly captures the sequence in which the car follows the biker before colliding with her motorcycle. It also shows an interaction between Sia and the occupants of the vehicle before the crash.

The footage quickly circulated across social media, prompting questions about road safety, harassment of women motorists and the behaviour of drivers towards bikers.

Sia had earlier alleged that the occupants of the car were intoxicated and had attempted to harass her. She said the vehicle repeatedly came close to her motorcycle and that the situation escalated before the collision.

In her complaint, she also alleged that she was dragged for a considerable distance following the impact. Her family later said that although she escaped life-threatening injuries, she experienced significant muscle pain, abrasions and body aches after the incident.

The video has consequently become an important part of the police investigation into what happened on Golf Course Road.

Lavnish accused of instigating the chase

Investigators have reportedly focused particular attention on the role of Lavnish, Bainsla's cousin and the passenger in the front seat.

According to the SIT findings, Lavnish allegedly encouraged Bainsla to chase Sia after the initial confrontation. He has also been accused of making indecent remarks towards the biker shortly before the collision.

Both Bainsla and Lavnish have been taken into custody in connection with the case.

The alleged role of the passenger has become an important part of the investigation because police are examining whether the other occupants merely witnessed the incident or actively contributed to the sequence of events.

The two remaining occupants of the vehicle have not been treated in the same manner at this stage. Police have reportedly issued notices to them and are recording their statements before deciding whether further action is warranted.

Attempt-to-murder charge adds seriousness to case

The case initially attracted attention as a dangerous driving and hit-and-run incident. However, the allegations and video evidence led investigators to examine whether the collision was intentional.

The FIR has subsequently included serious charges, including attempt to murder, along with provisions relating to rash driving, endangering life, stalking and insulting a woman's modesty.

Police have indicated that the investigation is examining the accused's alleged conduct before the crash, including the reported pursuit of Sia.

The attempt-to-murder allegation remains a matter for the investigation and subsequent judicial proceedings. The final determination of criminal liability will depend on the evidence presented before the court.

A five-member SIT has been constituted to investigate the incident, with officers examining the video footage, statements and other evidence to establish the exact sequence of events and the alleged motive.

Bainsla arrested in Rajasthan

Bainsla was arrested in Rajasthan after police teams searched for him following the incident. Lavnish was also arrested.

After his arrest, police reportedly said Bainsla attempted to escape custody while asking to use the washroom. He allegedly fell during the attempt and sustained injuries before being taken for medical attention.

The two accused were subsequently produced before a court and sent to police custody for questioning.

The investigation is now focused on reconstructing the entire sequence from the initial interaction near Sector 53 to the collision on Golf Course Road, while also determining the role of each person travelling in the car.

Police examining whether the crash was deliberate

One of the central questions in the Gurugram hit-and-run case is whether the collision was an accident caused by reckless driving or a deliberate act following the alleged chase.

Police have said the video and the victim's account are being examined to establish the circumstances surrounding the impact.

The reported two-kilometre pursuit has added weight to the investigation because it suggests that the interaction may have continued for a significant distance before the crash.
