The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised an alert for a potential cyclone forming over the Bay of Bengal. This is expected to intensify between November 22 and 23, could become the season’s second cyclone which is named Fengal. The storm is projected to move towards northern Sri Lanka, potentially making landfall by November 26-27.
Cyclone Fengal: All We Know So Far
IMD forecasts a low-pressure area in the Andaman Sea on November 21, 2024, to the southern side of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This system can intensify between November 22-23 and may develop into a cyclonic storm by the night of November 23. The name "Fengal" is proposed by Saudi Arabia. According to forecasts, the system is expected to gain intensity and move towards the west and north west, with a landfall forecast in northern Sri Lanka during November 26-27. The IMD has, however clearly pointed out that it is too early to indicate any confirmation of the storm's track and intensity, as that will depend upon the system's further development over the next few days.
