The Narendra Modi government had its penultimate cabinet meeting of the second term on Wednesday, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which are expected to occur in April-May. The Cabinet has approved two new corridors for Delhi's metro train network, Union Minister Anurag Thakur revealed at a press conference following the meeting.
At an estimated cost of ₹8399 crore, the two new corridors would be constructed as part of Delhi Metro Phase-IV. Of these, the Inderlok to Indraprastha corridor—which will have eleven stations overall—is an extension of the current Green Line, which runs from Kirti Nagar/Inderlok to Brig. Hoshiar Singh.
The all-new Delhi Metro stretch
The 12.377-kilometer route will have both underground (11.349 km) and elevated (1.028 km) lines. It will connect to the following lines: red (Rithala-Shaheed Sthal), yellow (Samaypur Badli to Millennium City Centre), magenta (Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden), violet (Kashmere Gate to Raja Nahar Singh), blue (Dwarka Sector 21 to Noida Electronic City), and airport (New Delhi to Yashabhoomi Dwarka Sector 25). Furthermore, it will provide improved communication with Bahadurgarh in adjoining Haryana.
The second approved corridor, on the other hand, is shorter (8.385 kilometers) and connects Lajpat Nagar and Saket G-block.
It will be an entirely elevated route with eight stations that connect to the Magenta, Silver, Violet, and Pink Lines (Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar). The proposed Silver Line, dubbed the Golden Line, will run 23.622 km between Delhi Aerocity and Tughlakabad. The route will include ten stations, also classified as Phase IV.
In Phase IV, there are three priority corridors, including Aerocity-Tughlakabad. The other two are Majlis Park-Maujpur (12.318 km, 8 stations) and Janakpuri West-RK Ashram Marg (29.262 km, 22 stations).
