A shocking murder-suicide case involving a techie, his wife, and their two children has shaken Bengaluru. The incident unfolded in the upscale RMV Second Stage area, leaving the community stunned.
Tragic Discovery by Domestic Help
The gruesome scene came to light on the morning of January 6, 2025, when the family’s housemaid arrived for work. After noticing no response to her knocks, she alerted neighbours and the police, leading to the discovery of four lifeless bodies inside the house.
The Victims: A Techie's Family in Crisis
The deceased have been identified as Anup Kumar (38), his wife Rakhi (35), their five-year-old daughter Anupriya, and their two-year-old son Priyansh. Preliminary reports indicate that the children were poisoned, while the couple died by hanging.
Initial investigations suggest that financial difficulties may have driven the family to this tragic end. The family, originally from Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, had been living in Bengaluru due to Anup's work in the tech industry.
Suicide Note Found
A note was found at the scene, but its contents are yet to be officially verified. Police believe the note may hold clues about the couple’s state of mind and their decision to end their lives.
Neighbours Shocked by the Incident
Neighbours and acquaintances expressed disbelief, stating that the family showed no outward signs of distress. Their housemaid also revealed that the family had recently planned a vacation, making the incident even more perplexing.
This is not the first such incident in the city. In October 2024, a man in Konanakunte killed his wife and her companion before taking his own life. These recurring tragedies underscore the growing need for mental health support in urban areas.
Mental health professionals emphasize the importance of accessible counselling services and financial advisory platforms to help individuals and families navigate crises without resorting to extreme actions.
Police Investigation Underway
Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation, including financial audits and interviews with friends and neighbours. The police have urged the public to seek professional help when facing personal or financial challenges.
This tragedy serves as a wake-up call for society to focus on providing emotional and financial support. Awareness campaigns, accessible mental health services, and open conversations about stress can help prevent such incidents in the future.
The Bengaluru double murder-suicide highlights the need for stronger support systems to tackle mental health and financial crises. It is essential for society to foster an environment where seeking help is normalised, ensuring no family faces such a devastating end.
