In a recent terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir's Akhnoor, the Indian Army utilised unmanned vehicles and artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance effectiveness and expedite mission outcomes. According to Major General Sameer Shrivastava, General Officer Commanding of the 10 Infantry Division, these technologies provided rapid and successful results.
"Unmanned vehicles and AI contributed significantly to the operation’s efficiency. We lost one of our Army dogs, who bravely led the search operations and was targeted by militants. His sacrifice helped save numerous lives," Major General Shrivastava stated.
Army Canine Phantom Killed in the Line of Duty
In the line of duty, the Army’s four-year-old sniffer dog, Phantom, sustained fatal injuries while shielding soldiers from terrorist fire. His sacrifice was recognised by officials, who highlighted his critical role in securing troop safety.
Dispelling rumours, Major General Shrivastava clarified that the Army deployed specialised vehicles, including BMPs, to navigate Akhnoor's rugged, forested terrain, which has a steep gradient of 30 degrees. "These vehicles facilitated our approach after locating militants in the challenging area," he explained.
Encounter Near Akhnoor: Three Terrorists Neutralised
The counter-terror mission in Akhnoor led to the elimination of three terrorists, who initially opened fire on an Army convoy ambulance. The operation was conducted as part of Operation Asan, a broader initiative to combat heightened terrorist threats following recent attacks in the region.
"We acted swiftly upon receiving information from local villagers. The terrorists appeared heavily armed, indicating a significant intended target. Thanks to coordination among security agencies, we were prepared," added Major General Shrivastava.
The offensive, part of the Army's ongoing efforts to curb terrorism in the region, was launched in response to escalating terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces, in conjunction with local police, initiated a coordinated search in response to the attack on the Army convoy.
