Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has recently expressed his intention to carry out a caste-based census in the state, taking inspiration from Bihar's approach. This decision was shared following a state party gathering in Jaipur.
Gehlot stressed that the idea came from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's proposal for a caste census in the Raipur assembly. He stated that the Rajasthan government will also conduct a caste census similar to Bihar. They will ensure that people participate in proportion to their population. To conduct the census as per the Bihar model, clear instructions will be provided.
Gehlot emphasized the importance of conducting such a census, stating that it is essential to comprehend the caste dynamics in order to ensure social security. He further explained that various castes are involved in different occupations and by acquiring knowledge about the population of each caste, we can develop specific schemes aimed at their welfare.
On October 2nd, Bihar's Nitish Kumar-led Mahagathbandhan government unveiled the results of their caste-based survey. In reaction, PM Modi voiced his concerns about the opposition, suggesting that they had taken advantage of the sentiments of the underprivileged and prolonged caste-related divisions over a significant period of time.

Additionally, Rahul Gandhi, a highly respected leader of the Congress party, expressed his commitment to carrying out a census based on caste in the event that his party gains power at the national level. In Chhattisgarh, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed the idea that if Congress were to regain power in the state, they would consider conducting a caste census similar to Bihar. She made this statement during a public event in poll-bound Chhattisgarh's Kanker.
According to the caste survey in Bihar, it was found that the combined population of the Other Backward Class (OBC) and Extremely Backward Class (EBC) makes up 63 per cent of the state's population.
