Nine Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the Odisha Police for allegedly entering into the Jagannath Temple in Puri. The apprehended are suspected to be non-Hindus, Only Hindus are permitted to enter the shrine as per temple regulations. Initial investigations indicate that four of the nine individuals managed to enter the temple premises.
The Bangladeshis were detained on Sunday evening after reports from members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad claimed that a group of non-Hindu Bangladeshis had violated the temple's regulations entering inside the 12th-century shrine. They lodged a complaint at the Singhadwar Police Station, after getting the complaint, a police team reached the spot and detained the tourists for questioning.
Additional SP Sushil Mishra said, "We have received a complaint that some non-Hindu people from Bangladesh have entered the temple. We have detained nine Bangladeshis and started questioning them.”
He added, The temple strictly permits entry only to Hindus, and legal action will be taken against those found to be non-Hindu.
"We are verifying their passports. It was found that one of them is a Hindu. We are checking the passports of others. Preliminary investigation suggests that four of the nine detainees entered the temple.”
