The Desi Avengers? Could Bhediya and Stree be interconnected?

“Ab Hoga Jungle Mein Kaand!”, captioned Varun Dhawan as he posted the poster for Bhediya on 17th October. A fierce and powerful stance with mystical eyes lent the poster an aura of intensity. Kriti Sanon, Deepak Dobriyal, and Abhishek Banerjee at the back seem to have halted with shock about something bone-chilling, with lights in their hands. It seems as if the characters are shedding light onto the Bhediya to guide us to an interpretation.

The individual posters for the two main leads were released on 18th October giving us a glimpse into their character profile. Varun Dhawan howling, and a blur effect highlights that he is out of his true human character with a “Bhediya” in the background. Kriti Sanon in a completely new look holding a syringe and looking compassionate but determined.

Further, the intriguing and promising trailer released on October 19, 2022, boasts amazing visuals, mindblowing VFX, and a fun experience overall. Varun starts evolving into a creature after being bitten by a werewolf, Dr. Anika comes to the rescue but there’s not much anybody would know about the treatment for a man turning into a werewolf. The groundwork from research starts by asking locals about the situation and some funny dialogues find their place in the horror-comedy throughout the resolution of Varun’s conflict. The trailer has been pulled off well and we might be waiting for a masterpiece.

It is spot-on in the portrayal of the themes and emotions the movie is going to play with. The spooky sound effects and details, ending it with a childhood favourite “phool khila hai” make it accurate in the horror comedy genre. The transition between bright tones to dark contrasts helps the audience grasp the changes happening to Varun.

The scintillating song release for Thumkeshwari organized in association with a roaring bullet in Mumbai's Gaiety Galaxy on 28th October was highly successful. The audience was distributed masks to teleport them into the world of the “Bhediya '' and as they hooted and whistled for the stars’ entry, the theatre had the vibe of an eerie forest. A highly-welcomed surprise was the one-and-only Ganesh Acharya’s presence as he showcased his choreography. The stars got off on the theatre’s roof to exhibit the wild yet playful side of their characters and tossed onto their fans, t-shirts branded with their movie’s name.

Although the event was star-studded, the most surprising element for fans was the unveiling of the fact that “Stree” might play a role in the movie. Due to Varun Dhawan’s statement where he addressed the character as Stree instead of Shraddha Kapoor, the fans now await eagerly to witness a comeback from the 2018-released horror-comedy. The connections between the two movies became highly talked-about as Kriti had “Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe” in Stree and Shraddha can be seen in Thumkeshwari with the script for Stree 2 finalized where Varun’s Bhediya is anticipated to make an appearance. Dinesh Vijan, another common link between the two movies, stated in an interview last year that they were preparing for Stree’s prequel. Ayushman-Samantha will be starring in a vampire-oriented film as well. These additions to the horror-comedy multiverse by Dinesh Vijan are preparing the audience to be thrilled for the crossovers soon to come.

Bhediya is a collaboration of Maddock Films, Jio Studios, Director Amar Kaushik, Producer Dinesh Vijan, and Writer Niren Bhatt. The VFX and special effects designed by Pratik Chaudhary, Shobhit Garg, and Adithya Kashyap, and the cinematography by Jishnu Bhattacharjee are to be applauded, they have done great justice to the belief of the movie.

Originally planned to be released in April, the movie was completely shot during the pandemic. The scenic views are sure to bring awe and grandeur from Arunachal Pradesh to the eyes of the audience as the film remains inspired by legends of the same place. The earliest glimpse into the movie was when the makers, on 20th September released a teaser hinting at the effects of human encroachment upon wildlife. The aerial shot of a lush forest panned to a wolf looking at a cottage ahead. It did not satisfy the curiosity of our hearts but it became a reason for the adrenaline rush of fans.

Now, we shall fasten onto our seat belts waiting to embark on the wild adventure with Bhediya soon.
