Indian-origin executive Vaibhav Taneja has been appointed as Tesla's new Chief Financial Officer, succeeding Zachary Kirkhorn, who recently announced his departure from the role, according to an official filing by the electric car manufacturer on Monday.
Taneja, 45, now also serves as Tesla's Chief Financial Officer (CFO), in addition to his present role as Tesla's Chief Accounting Officer (CAO). Kirkhorn, who had served as Tesla's finance chief for the past four years, has stepped down from his role.
In a company statement, Tesla praised Kirkhorn's 13-year tenure, highlighting the significant growth and expansion the company achieved under his leadership. Kirkhorn will continue to support a smooth transition until the end of the year.
Kirkhorn shared the news of his departure in a LinkedIn post, expressing pride in the accomplishments of the company during his time there and extending gratitude to Tesla's dedicated workforce and CEO Elon Musk.
Vaibhav Taneja has been associated with Tesla since 2016, initially joining various financial roles at SolarCity Corporation before its acquisition by Tesla. He has been the CAO since March 2019 and previously held positions including Corporate Controller.
Prior to his time at Tesla, Taneja worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in both India and the US from 1999 to 2016, according to the company's filing.
