Starlink vs Jio: Elon Musk and Mukesh Ambani Clash Over India's Satellite Internet Race

A major corporate and regulatory battle is brewing over India's satellite internet market between Elon Musk's Starlink and Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio. Musk recently sparked a massive debate by claiming that local 'oligarchs' are obstructing Starlink's approval to protect their market dominance, calling it a crime against the Indian people.

In response, the Indian government clarified that Starlink is simply undergoing routine security assessments required for all satellite communication operators. Meanwhile, Reliance Jio is actively developing its own $10-$15 billion sovereign low-Earth orbit constellation, comprising roughly 1,600 satellites and 23 ground stations, to compete in the sector aggressively.

Although the government has proposed an administrative spectrum allocation framework at a 5% usage charge, final Cabinet clearance remains pending. Both telecom giants are now in a high-stakes race to capture the untapped market of remote and rural Indian consumers. Keeping our audience informed on these massive technological shifts remains a core commitment for the VYGR news desk.
