In anticipation of the approaching general elections, the Karnataka administration, led by the Congress party, is getting ready. In order to ease the terrible drought that the state is currently experiencing, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposed an open budget that primarily funds agriculture and irrigation.
Karnataka budget for 2024 focuses on various key points
- Chief Minister Siddaramaiah proposes a budget of ₹3.71 lakh crore, up by ₹44,000 crore from the previous budget.
- There are five major promises that the Congress party made during the election. One of them was the Gruha Lakshmi scheme. CM Siddaramaiah said, "1.33 crore women are benefiting from it." Up to the end of January, 1.17 crore women had signed up for the scheme, and ₹11,726 crore had already been sent straight to their bank accounts. It will be given ₹28,608 crore in the years 2024–25. This results in both revenue production and family maintenance.
- Anganwadi centres across the state will get ₹300 crore to be built up and made better. The government of Karnataka, which is led by Siddaramaiah, has chosen to spend a lot of money this year—₹86,423 crore and ₹54,617 crore, respectively—on helping women and children.
- A total of ₹39,121 crore was set aside by CM Siddaramaiah for the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan in 2024–25 and ₹11,447 crore for the Scheduled Tribe sub-project. These amounts were given to help the SC/ST group. The government has given a total of Rs. 2,710 crore to build residential schools and hostels for people from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backward Classes, and Minority Groups. It will cost about ₹638 crore to build 29 residential school complexes for different government offices, CM Siddaramaiah said.
- This project will cost ₹280 crore and will build 100-bed taluk hospitals in Anekal, Nelamangala, Hoskote, Shringeri, Khanapura, Shirahatti, and Yelandur.
- 200 crore will aid in the growth of the Christian organisation.
- It is planned to spend 100 crore rupees on improving Wakf properties. While the ASI is in charge, there will be a special focus on protecting and restoring protected landmarks.
- Over the next five years, the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board plans to focus on building up infrastructure through projects worth a total of five billion rupees.
