A disturbing incident of mob violence has rocked Rayagada, Odisha, after two NGO workers, a woman from Delhi and her male colleague from Gujarat, were viciously attacked by a mob in the Kalyansinghpur block.
The victims, who were traveling from Kandhamal to Kalahandi, were intercepted near Kandulguda village on June 16, 2026, after locals mistakenly branded them as "child lifters" while they were asking for directions.
Despite the victims showing their official identification cards, the mob turned violent, leading to a harrowing assault where the woman was molested and both were severely injured.
The state has responded with 21 arrests so far, and the Crime Branch has now joined the investigation to ensure those responsible face strict action.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the deadly consequences of misinformation and mob vigilantism. Misinformation kills.
