Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand — May 8, 2025:
A devastating helicopter crash occurred in the Gangani area of Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district on Thursday morning, leaving at least five people feared dead and two others critically injured. The tragic incident took place around 9 AM as a private helicopter was enroute to the sacred town of Gangotri.
Helicopter Crash Details
The ill-fated chopper, reportedly operated by a private aviation company, was ferrying 5 to 6 passengers when it went down under unknown circumstances. The helicopter had taken off from Dehradun and was heading toward the Harsil helipad, a common gateway for pilgrims visiting the revered Gangotri Dham.
Immediate Rescue Efforts Underway
Local villagers and police were the first responders at the crash site. Swift rescue operations were initiated by multiple emergency services. Personnel from the police, Indian Army, Disaster Management teams, and ambulance services have been deployed. District administration officials, including the Tehsildar and BDO from Bhatwadi, are on-site to oversee and assist with rescue and recovery operations.
Official Response
Gangotri MLA Suresh Singh Chauhan has expressed profound grief over the tragic incident. He has directed the District Magistrate of Uttarkashi to reach the crash site immediately to coordinate efforts and ensure all necessary support is extended to the victims and their families.
Casualties Reported
As per the latest updates, at least five people are feared dead and two others are critically injured and are being treated. The identities of the deceased and injured are yet to be officially released.
