Imagine thousands of years of history hidden beneath the ground and suddenly a mysterious Shivling emerges.

Something similarly astonishing has been revealed during the excavation of an underpass in the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga complex in Ujjain Madhya Pradesh.

During digging an ancient Shivling was suddenly discovered from the earth sending a wave of faith and excitement across the entire region.

Historians say this area was once known as Mahakal Van where every particle was believed to house Lord Shiva.

It is said that the great emperor Vikramaditya built numerous temples here but time and invasions buried these temples under soil.

Now as construction resumes history is revealing itself. Shivlings, idols and ancient remains are constantly being found.

Most notably this Shivling is believed to have inscriptions in Sanskrit and Brahmi script which could become a major clue in understanding our ancient past.

Earlier too idols have been found during excavation at Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga.
