Uber Introduces AI Assistant for Seamless Ride Management

Uber Technologies is set to introduce a new AI assistant, powered by OpenAI’s technology, to help drivers transition to electric vehicles (EVs). This move is part of Uber's ongoing commitment to reducing emissions. The company has been advocating for a shift to EVs for several years and has committed $800 million to assist its driver partners in fully switching to EVs by 2040.

Uber Introduces AI Assistant

AI Assistant Revealed at Go-Get Zero Event

The AI assistant, based on OpenAI’s GPT-4 technology, was revealed at Uber's Go-Get Zero event in London on Tuesday. The chatbot is expected to launch in the United States early next year, with plans to expand to other regions. Uber announced that the AI assistant will provide personalized responses tailored to the driver’s city and available incentives. By early 2025, the company plans to expand the chatbot’s functionality to address queries beyond EV-related topics.

Uber Drivers Leading the EV Transition

According to Uber, approximately 180,000 drivers in North America and Europe are transitioning to EVs each month. "Uber drivers are adopting EVs five times faster than the average motorist in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. In London, nearly 30% of all miles driven on Uber are now electric," said Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s CEO.

As part of its push toward sustainable transportation, Uber is also launching a mentorship program. This initiative will connect experienced EV drivers with those interested in making the switch to electric vehicles, providing guidance and support.

Sustainability Initiatives for Merchants

In addition to its efforts for drivers, Uber is recognizing top merchants on its food delivery platform by awarding $50,000 to fund their sustainability projects. This initiative is aimed at helping merchants enhance their sustainability practices while reaching more customers.

Uber is also rolling out a series of pop-up events for customers to experience EVs firsthand. In London, users will be able to try the Lotus Eletre, while in Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas, customers can reserve a ride in a Rivian EV.
