Apple reportedly plans to join the foldable gadget market by 2027

Apple fans may soon see the tech titan's debut into the world of foldable gadgets, with the latest rumors predicting a launch in 2026 or possibly 2027. Despite long-standing speculation about a foldable iPhone or iPad, precise specifics have remained elusive, with only patent sketches providing peeks into Apple's progress in this fascinating field.

According to MacRumors, insights from the Korean website The Elec suggest that Apple's first foldable smartphone will have a display size of 7 to 8 inches. This puts it squarely against the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, a 7.6-inch smartphone, indicating a strong competitor in the quickly developing foldable smartphone industry.

Industry insiders predict that Apple's foldable phone will have a book-style design similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, instead of using the flip phone form seen in more compact devices like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The fact that it's unclear if this will be a foldable iPad or an iPhone makes this disclosure one of the more interesting ones. The Elec makes it more likely that it might take the place of the iPad mini series. Still, there are rumors that Apple is working on an OLED-screen iPad mini, which raises questions about the company's long-term plans.

Despite these promising advancements, this information should be approached with caution. The information supplied appears to be preliminary, allowing for future changes. Though it's exciting to think that Apple might release a foldable gadget in 2026 or 2027, there's still a chance that things will change and evolve in the upcoming years.
