The Information reports have sparked speculation regarding Apple's long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone market, currently being dominated by Samsung. The tech giant is actively involved in the development of at least two prototypes for foldable iPhones, featuring a horizontal folding mechanism similar to that of Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip lineup.
In 2018, Apple CEO Tim Cook reportedly held discussions with engineers regarding the feasibility of a foldable design. However, progress faced setbacks in 2020, it was recently, when the progress resumed. Apple is reportedly constructing prototypes for foldable iPhones with a clamshell design, potentially incorporating features like capturing pictures at a 90-degree angle when unfolded.
However, Apple faces difficulties in creating these gadgets due to issues with sleekness and durability. In order to incorporate outside displays that are visible even when the device is folded, the rech giant is working with engineers to solve concerns over early breaking.

.Apple aims to maintain a slim profile similar to current iPhone models, but factors such as battery size and display components are posing challenges. Reports suggest that Apple has engaged at least one Asian supplier for components related to the development of two different-sized foldable iPhone models.
The "Gadget Market" is buzzing with rumors that Apple is investigating the possibility of a foldable iPad that is the same size as the present iPad Mini. Engineers are working to improve a hinge mechanism that would allow the display to rest flat when unfolded while minimising the crease in the centre of the screen.

Since Samsung introduced the Galaxy Fold in 2019, the market for foldable smartphones has experienced significant growth, with major players launching their own lineups. Despite the trend, foldable devices remain niche products due to their higher price points, display fragility, and elevated repair costs compared to conventional smartphones.
Despite the fact that Apple hasn't yet made any formal statements about joining the foldable smartphone market, the corporation has a chance to compete if a clamshell-style iPhone is introduced.
