Verstappen drives Redbull to its 100th Grand Prix win

Max Verstappen took the lead in the Formula One title and the historic 100th victory for Red Bull by winning the Canadian Grand Prix on Sunday from pole position.

The 25-year-old Dutch racer passed the late triple champion Ayrton Senna in the record books by winning 41 races in his career, leading every lap.

At Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Fernando Alonso finished second for Aston Martin, earning the Spaniard his sixth podium in eight races. Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time world champion from the United Kingdom, finished third for Mercedes.

"Today, to win the 100th grand prix for the team that's pretty incredible," said Verstappen, who has now led more than 200 consecutive laps.

"I never expected to be in these kinds of numbers myself as well, we keep enjoying, we keep working hard but today has been a great day."

The two Ferraris followed Hamilton to the finish line, with Carlos Sainz finishing fifth and Charles Leclerc earning fourth.

Verstappen, a two-time world champion, won his sixth and fourth consecutive races for Red Bull in Canada. Red Bull has won every race thus far this season.
