The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially revealed the three venues for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is set to be hosted jointly by the United States and the West Indies. This exciting announcement was made on September 20, marking a significant moment in cricket history. The chosen cities to stage this thrilling cricket spectacle are Dallas, Florida, and New York. It is worth noting that this will be the first time the USA has the honour of hosting a major ICC event, although it has previously been a host for various West Indies bilateral series.
Strategic Move in the USA
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice expressed his enthusiasm for this upcoming event, stating, “We’re delighted to announce the three USA venues that will host part of the biggest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup ever staged, with 20 teams competing for the trophy. The USA is a strategically important market, and these venues give us an excellent opportunity to make a statement in the world’s biggest sports market.”
Modular Stadiums to Enhance Facilities
To accommodate the tournament's needs, modular stadium solutions will be implemented. An agreement has been made to construct a 34,000-seat modular stadium in Eisenhower Park, a dedicated sports and events park located in Nassau County, New York. This construction is contingent on receiving the required permits next month.
West Indies and England: The Tournament's History
West Indies, the co-hosts for the 2024 T20 World Cup, previously hosted this prestigious event in 2010. England emerged as the champions on that occasion, marking their first-ever T20 World Cup victory under the leadership of Paul Collingwood. Notably, England enters the 2024 tournament as the defending champions, having clinched the title in 2022 in Australia.
Pre-Event Matches and Training Venues
In addition to the main tournament venues, several other potential locations have been identified for pre-event matches and training sessions. One such venue is George Mason University in Washington, which serves as the home ground for the Major League Cricket (MLC) team, Washington Freedom.
