Shubman Gill, India's one of the finest young players, answered to criticism with a third Test century on Day 3 of the second match against England in Visakhapatnam. After experiencing severe difficulties in the red-ball format, the batter made a roaring comeback to score runs; Gill supported the team when the other players in the top order failed to produce much in the second innings.
After the early dismissal of Rohit Sharma (13) in the first over of the third day's play, James Anderson removed Yashasvi Jaiswal, the previous innings' double-centurion, as well. As a result, the third player for India looked conspicuously wary, especially when facing Anderson's precise bowling.

A slow and steady knock by Shubman
Early on, Gill had a lucky escape when the TV umpire overturned a near LBW judgment because of an inside edge that was detected. In the next over, Anderson's ball hit Gill's knee roll, giving rise to another fright, but this time the umpire ruled in favor of the hitter.
Still, Gill's confidence seemed to be reinforced by these fortunate events. He started to show his mettle, hitting Shoaib Bashir with a clean six before stepping up to take advantage of the spinners. When Gill went out to leggie Rehan Ahmed for a boundary down the ground and then hit a cover drive to complete his half-century, it was clear that he was taking an aggressive stance.
Impressive Innings by Gill
Gill changed gears swiftly and batted effortlessly throughout his knock. The young batter's relief was visible since he had been under fire for his low Test score for a considerable amount of time. Gill's career average had dropped below thirty before this Test.
By hitting two boundaries and six off back-to-back deliveries from the leg-spinner, Gill showed that he was ready to seize control of the England bowling attack. After 132 deliveries throughout the innings, the 24-year-old finally surpassed the three-figure mark in the 52nd over.

Gill's century comes at a pivotal point in his Test career, particularly in light of the speculation that, after a run of poor performances, he would not even make the Test XI.
