Shikhar Dhawan All the Way: From India-team ODI Captain to Punjab Kings Captain in IPL 2023

BCCI announced 4 squads on 31st October for the upcoming series against New Zealand and Bangladesh. After leading India to victory against South Africa in ODI, Shikhar Dhawan is called again to lead India against New Zealand in the upcoming ODI series after the world cup ends. And now there is the next news of him leading the Punjab Kings team in the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2023 edition. 

Dhawan joined the Punjab Kings after the 2022 auction and has replaced Mayank Agarwal who seems to be on his way out. The auctions for the IPL will be held in December and franchises will submit their full list of released players by November. Dhawan at the moment is PBKS' most experienced player and could see a good pairing with the new team coaching management at the helm of the franchise.

With Dhawan as captain, Rishabh Pant has been cast in the role of vice-captain. Rajasthan Royals, Kuldeep Yadav has received a call for the ODIs, after a great performance in IPL. Umran malik also makes a comeback after missing quite a few matches.

After leading Gujrat Titans to victory in IPL T20, Hardik Pandya has now the responsibility to hopefully lead India to victory in the upcoming T20 series.  Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Kl Rahul, Dinesh Karthik and Ravichandran Ashwin have been rested to manage their workload, according to the BCCI.

Squad for Bangladesh Tests: Rohit Sharma (C), KL Rahul (VC), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav.

Although Dinesh Karthik remains out of the squad, Kl Rahul, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin return to action. Shikhar Dhawan is part of both 50-over squads and not in any T20 or test squad. Dhawan had expressed to members of the media at one time, “I honestly don’t know about it, maybe it could be the reason. I don’t want to go deep about it I have not played T20 for India for a long time now, and I don’t know where I see myself. I look to make the most out of every opportunity I am getting. Be it IPL, domestic cricket, or ODI, I just want to do well, and that is the only thing under my control,”
