Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, an Indian shuttler, set a new Guinness World Record on Tuesday by hitting the quickest smash at the current Korea Open 2023. Tan Boon Heong of Malaysia set a record in May 2013 with a smash that resulted in a speed of 493 km/h that lasted for 10 years. That benchmark was broken by Satwiksairaj. By clocking in at 565 kmph, Satwiksairaj broke the old record and set a new one. Satwiksairaj and Chirag Shetty, the third-seeded Indian men's doubles combination, upset Thailand's Supak Jomkoh/Kittinupong Kedren 21-16, 21-14 to qualify for the pre-quarterfinals.
They came back from being down in the second game to win the match in consecutive games. On the first day of the tournament, only Satwik and Chirag from India succeeded in taking first place. The second men's doubles pair, Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun had to quit their match prematurely owing to an injury. Harshit Aggarwal and Shashwat Dalal failed to pass the qualifying rounds. On Wednesday, the best Indian singles players, including PV Sindhu, HS Prannoy, and Kidambi Srikanth, will compete in their first competition in South Korea.
