Sarpanch Shreyas Iyer Scripts History, Takes Punjab Kings to IPL Final After 11 Long Years

“ Punjabi IPL Final aa gyee oyeee’ as the Punjab Kings defeated the six-time champions Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025. This highly anticipated clash to determine who will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL final was played in the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Punjab Kings led by Shreyas Iyer were just too good for Mumbai Indians as the team in red won the match by 5 wickets to seal their place in the IPL final. Shreyas Iyer won the important toss and asked Mumbai Indians to bat first on a flat Ahmedabad Pitch, and before the match could begin, the rain gods delayed the biggest clash of the season by 2 hours as the match started at 9:45 after the rain stopped. The ground staff cleared all the water from the ground. No overs were lost due to the new BCCI rule of adding 120 minutes in the Playoffs if the match is interrupted by rain. Mumbai Indians batted beautifully and scored 203-6 in their 20 overs. Tilak Varma and the most consistent batter of IPL this season, Suryakumar Yadav, scored 44 each, the highest individual score among the MI batters. Naman Dhir provided the finishing touches to the innings as the youngster scored 37 off just 18 balls. Mumbai Indians had never lost a match after scoring 200 in the first innings in the history of the Indian Premier League before this match they had scored 200+ 18 times in the IPL and had never lost a match after scoring 200 but the Sarpanch and his Punjabi Warrior had other plans as the PUNJAB KINGS chased down the target in just 19 overs. Captain Shryeas Iyer scored the highest 87 runs off 41 balls to take Punjab Kings to their first IPL final after 2014.

'Shreyas Sarpanch Iyer' wins the battle

After facing a humiliating defeat in the first Qualifier, the Punjab Kings captain said that they may have lost the battle, but not the war. Now the Sarpanch as the Punjab Kings fans call him have won this battle against Mumbai Indians and will now be looking to win the war against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Shreyas Iyer was the main man for Punjab Kings in the biggest match for the franchise in over a decade, as when the Punjab openers failed to score big in this run chase, the Captain stepped up and won it for his team. Jos Inglis also played a good innings of 38 off just 21 balls and Australian player scoring in Ahmedabad we all have seen this story before the Aussie wicket keeper managed to shift the momentum toward the Kings when he smashed the world’s best bowler Jasprit Bumrah for 20 runs in his first over that is where the whole game changed. Jos Inglis is a player who is peaking at the right time for the Kings. The main man Sarpanch started slowly as he showed from the first ball of his innings that he is going to look to play till the end and Shreyas managed to take his time only because of Nehal Wadhera the “Starboy” of Punjab Kings who played a brilliant innings of 48 off just 29 balls and took all the pressure off his Captain. Shreyas Iyer shifted his gears in the 13th over of the game when he took on Reece Topley and smashed three big sixes in his over, after which Iyer never looked back and kept on smashing every bowler he faced. Shreyas played the shot of the tournament when he smashed a four on Jasprit Bumrah’s Yorker he just opened the face of his bat and deflected the ball towards the left of Reece Topley, who was standing on the third man position. Shreyas Iyer is now also the first Captain to take three different franchises to the IPL final.

 Job half done- Shreyas Iyer

When Punjab lost the qualifier 1 to RCB, Iyer said that they have lost the battle but not the war, and this time, after winning the Qualifier, the captain said their job is just half done and said that

“(Conversations with uncapped players) I just let them be, I don't ask too much of them, I love the fearless nature that we bring to the table and also the ideas that they share. They would be having a fair set of ideas about how to play that situation. Even though they haven't got that much of experience, they've got the brave nature and on such big occasions, it's important that they gain more experience. I wasn't thinking about where I'm going to go (during the auctions), I just wanted to be in a good environment. My mind space is more important than where I'm going, I'm very comfortable with the management and everyone around me have made me feel very comfortable. The environment is always positive.
(On the final) I'm just staying in the moment right now, I want to cherish this moment, go out to the dressing room and celebrate with my team that we've reached the final. But I personally feel that the job is half done, so not going to think about the final that much. Just be in the moment, rejuvenate,
relax, get a massage before tomorrow's game and be in a great mindset.’

Shreyas Iyer and Rajat Patidar are both captaining their respective franchises for the first time, and whichever captain manages to bring the trophy home will forever etch their names in the IPL hall of fame and the history books of Cricket.
