On Wednesday, September 4, Sachin Khilari added another prestigious accolade to his career by winning the silver medal in the men's shot put F46 category at the Paris Paralympics. Khilari achieved a throw of 16.32 meters, finishing behind Canada's Greg Stewart at the Stade de France in Paris. This performance was not only a personal best for Khilari but also the top throw ever recorded by an Asian in the men’s F46 event.
Performance of Indian Contenders
Among the three Indian athletes in the shot put event, Mohd Yasser and Rohit Kumar did not reach the podium. Yasser finished in 8th place with a best throw of 14.21 meters, while Kumar ended up 9th with a throw of 14.10 meters. Despite their efforts, neither managed to secure a medal.
Sachin words after winning the match
“I feel I can do better, I wanted another gold medal (after winning the world title in May). But it was not possible this time. It was not my day. This was my personal best, which is great. But I am not satisfied. I know I can do better next time.”
“Greg is very good. He had a great competition. I need to work harder to beat him next time. I made a few mistakes today in my technique. But I will definitely beat him next time.”

About Sachin Khilari
Sachin Sarjerao Khilari hails from Kargani, Atpadi Taluka, Sangli district, Maharashtra. His path to becoming a top para shot put athlete has been marked by resilience and determination. At the age of nine, Khilari suffered a severe injury from a bicycle accident, which led to a fracture and gangrene in his left hand. Despite these challenges, he pursued sports while studying to become an engineer.
Initially starting with javelin throw, Khilari switched to shot put following a shoulder injury, a decision that significantly impacted his career. With the guidance of coach Arvind Chavan, Khilari developed his shot put skills and won his first gold medal at the Jaipur Nationals in 2017. His subsequent victories include a world para title in Paris and a gold at the Hangzhou Asian Para Games, with impressive throws of 16.21 meters and 16.03 meters respectively.
