Paris Olympics Day 8 Live Updates: Nishant Dev misses medal as he losses the boxing quarter final

Day 8 of the Paris Olympics promises to be a pivotal one for India's contingent. Heartbreak for Bhajan Kaur. The 18-year-old shoots an 8 in the shoot-off. Indonesia's Choirunisa Diananda shot a 9 and progressed to the quarter-final. It was a big disappointment for Bhajan Kaur, who was consistently good in her maiden Olympic appearance. She forced a shoot-off after coming back from behind but was not able to deliver in the crunch moment.

Bhajan Kaur is up against Diananda Choirunisa of Indonesia in the Round of 16. Bhajan is ranked 45 while her Indonesian opponent is 38th in world archery individual recurve rankings.

The focus shifts to the women's archery event as India's Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur will take part in the pre-quarterfinal events.. 

Deepika Kumari will be in action against Michelle Kroppen of Germany in the Round of 16. Deepika is ranked 12th while her opponent is ranked 13th in the women's individual recurve list. 

► Manu Bhaker misses hat-trick

Paris Olympics 2024: Manu Bhaker finished fourth in the women's 25m pistol, agonizingly missing a third medal at the Games. Manu was in top form in a fiercely contest final among 8 shooters. The former world record holder Veronika Major and Manu had a shoot-off as they were tied for 28. Manu finishes fourth. This is going to hurt. She doesn’t look happy, having missed two in the third-place shoot-off.

► Manu Bhaker is in for a tough fight

Hungary's Major Veronika will be giving a tough fight to Manu Bhaker in the women's 25m pistol event. She topped the qualification with 582 points, 2 more than Manu who finished second. Manu won bronze in the 25m pistol event at the 2023 World Cup in Bhopal. She won an Asian Games gold in the 25m pistol team event last year in Hangzhou.  Can Manu script history?

Manu Bhaker, India's shooting sensation, will return to compete for a third medal in the Paris Olympics in 2024. Manu will compete in the women's 25-meter pistol final at the Chateauroux Shooting Centre on Saturday, August 3. With two bronze medals already in her possession, the 22-year-old intends to try for a triple crown. Manu took first place in the women's 25-meter air pistol competition and then, with Sarabjot Singh, won third place in the mixed team event as well.
