Pakistani cricketer Ayesha Naseem retires at 18 for religious reasons

Ayesha Naseem, an 18-year-old female cricketer from Pakistan, has reportedly declared her retirement from the sport citing religious reasons. With participation in four ODIs and 30 T20Is, Ayesha has been a prominent top-order batter for the team. In T20Is, she has showcased her batting prowess by amassing 369 runs at an average of 18.45. Her performance in ODIs stands at 33 runs. During the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup, Ayesha made a remarkable contribution by scoring an unbeaten 43 off 25 balls against India. However, as per reports from Cricket Pakistan, she has now communicated her decision to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about stepping away from the game to lead her life in accordance with the principles of Islam.

In June 2021, she caught the eye of everyone with her exceptional performance, scoring an unbeaten 45 off 33 balls against West Indies. Continuing her impressive form, she replicated the same score against Sri Lanka in a T20I match held in Karachi in May of the same year, but this time achieving it in just 31 balls.

In January 2023, she demonstrated her quick-fire batting skills against Australia, scoring a valuable 24 runs from only 20 balls, which included three sixes and a four. Former Pakistan captain, Wasim Akram, showered praise on her, describing her as a "serious talent."
