MS Dhoni: A guiding light for the youngsters

MS Dhoni, who is almost 42 years old, only plays professional cricket for two months a year during the Indian Premier League and has been retired from international cricket since August 2020. Despite his absence from the field, Dhoni continues to shape future players. Just hearing Rinku Singh, Shivam Dube, and others speak on the mic makes you understand how important Dhoni's presence behind the scenes has been to their careers.

MS Dhoni the mentor

Shivam Dube, who led India's victorious chase against Afghanistan in the first T20I at Mohali with an unbeaten 60 off 40 balls, lauded Dhoni for the lessons he learned while playing with Chennai Super Kings. On Thursday, after India defeated Afghanistan by six wickets, Dube went on record about probing Dhoni's brains when it came to finishing games.

"When I came to bat, I wanted to implement what I have learned from MS Dhoni about finishing games. I keep speaking to Mahi bhai. He tells me about how to tackle different situations. He has given me two-three tips and rated my batting," - Shivam Dube said to the broadcasters.

Dhoni's Impact on Rinku Singh

Dube wasn't the only youngster gushing over Dhoni. Rinku, his batting partner at the other end, remarked after the match that Dhoni taught him the value of being calm in tight situations.

"I try to talk to myself, and tell myself that anything can happen when I bat at No. 6. In the last IPL, I spoke to Mahi bhai, and he said the more you remain calm the better it is. Try to see what the bowler is doing and react accordingly. If I think too much, things can go wrong for me (laughs), so I see what the bowler is doing instead," said Rinku after the match.
