The Mumbai Indians (MI) headed the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 points table on Saturday after defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by seven wickets in a match that promised a lot but fell short of expectations at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Chasing 132 runs for win, MI's opening pair of Hayley Mathews and Yastika Bhatia got off to a flying start, putting up 37 runs in the first three overs, and despite Sophie Devine removing the former (31 runs off 15 balls), the reigning champions were far ahead in the chase.

MI raced to 60 for 1 after six overs, and Mathews and stand-in skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt appeared to be taking the defending champions home before Shreyanka Patil struck to send the former (26 runs off 21 balls) back, caught by Smriti Mandhana, to give her side a chance to cash in.
Sciver-Brunt (27 runs off 24 balls) and Amelia Kerr came close to sealing the win for the home side with a partnership of 49 runs for the third wicket. However, Sciver-Brunt fell while attempting a reverse sweep against Georgia Wareham.
Kerr (40 runs off 23 balls) and Pooja Vastrakar then finished off the remaining runs, securing a comfortable victory for MI.
