During the Boxing Day Test between Australia and South Africa, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) paid tribute to their hero Shane Warne on Monday.
At 3.50 p.m. local time, play was stopped and Warne's picture was shown on the stadium's big screen while players and fans applauded for a whole minute. This was done as Warne’s test cap number was 350. The number was also painted on the MCG outfield for the match.
- Warne represented Australia in 145 Tests.
- He is the third most-capped Australian cricketer to have worn the Baggy Green behind Ricky Ponting and Allan Border
- He played in 194 ODI matches and completed his career with 1001 wickets.
- He has taken 708 Test wickets, making him second all-time great wicket-taker after Muttiah Muralitharan.
Shane Warne was an Australian cricketer who was widely regarded as one of the greatest spin bowlers in the history of the game. He was born on September 13, 1969, in Melbourne, Victoria, and began his professional cricket career with the Victorian state team in the late 1980s.
He made his debut for the Australian national team in 1992 and went on to have a highly successful career, taking over 1000 wickets in international cricket. He passed away in March 2022.
Warne was known for his ability to spin the ball, particularly his ability to bowl the "flipper," a delivery that bounced off the pitch and then spun sharply. He was also known for his accuracy and his ability to take wickets consistently, and he played a key role in the success of the Australian cricket team in the 1990s and early 2000s.
In addition to his success on the field, Warne was also known for his flamboyant personality and his off-field controversies. He retired from international cricket in 2007 and had since worked as a cricket commentator and coach.
