Max Verstappen triumphs in US Grand Prix sprint race

Max Verstappen, the highly skilled Dutch racer and three-time world champion, achieved a remarkable win in the U.S. Grand Prix sprint race, commencing from the esteemed pole position. Lewis Hamilton, a formidable opponent from Mercedes, attained second place, finishing 9.465 seconds behind. The thrilling 19-lap individual race took place at the prestigious Circuit of the Americas in Austin.

Charles Leclerc of Ferrari successfully clinched the third spot, although Hamilton managed to surpass him at the beginning of the race. It is worth mentioning that this race allocated points to the top eight participants. The highly anticipated main event at the Texan track is scheduled for Sunday, where Leclerc will commence from pole position, while Verstappen will strive to achieve his 50th grand prix triumph from the sixth position on the starting grid.

The highly successful Red Bull team, led by Verstappen, has already secured both the constructors' and drivers' world championships with remarkable efficiency, accomplishing this remarkable feat well before the conclusion of several races. Red Bull has impressively emerged victorious in 16 out of 17 races this year.

In the beginning, Verstappen made a confident move towards Leclerc, while Hamilton briefly went beyond the track limits in his attempt to catch up. However, Hamilton successfully passed the Ferrari without facing any penalties. In the early stages of the race, Hamilton stayed close behind, using DRS (drag reduction system), but eventually, the Red Bull increased the distance between them.

Verstappen shared: “It was pretty tight. Luckily there was plenty of space before turn one, which helped. After that, we were able to run our own race and control the pace a little. I ended up having a little fun, pushing a little harder.

Lando Norris of McLaren achieved a commendable fourth place, narrowly missing the chance to surpass Leclerc. Sergio Perez of Red Bull secured fifth place, and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz, the only driver starting on the faster but less durable soft tires, managed to secure the sixth position.

Alpine's Pierre Gasly achieved a commendable seventh place, while George Russell of Mercedes secured the last point.

UPDATE:  It is worth mentioning that Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, unfortunately, faced disqualification from the United States Grand Prix due to the detection of worn planks during inspections, which violated Formula 1 regulations.
