Indian pistol shooter Divanshi claimed her second individual gold in the women's 25m standard pistol event, spearheading a historic clean sweep for India at the ISSF Junior World Championship held in Lima, Peru. India's young shooting squad continued their impressive run, adding five more medals on Friday, including two gold, bringing their total medal tally to 21. This keeps India firmly at the top of the leaderboard with 13 gold, two silver, and six bronze medals.
Norway and China Trail Behind
While India dominated the medal standings, Norway followed at a distant second with a total of 10 medals (four gold, three silver, and three bronze). China ranked third, securing three gold and one silver.
Divanshi delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 564 out of 600 to take the top spot in the 25m standard pistol event. Teammate Parisha Gupta secured the silver medal with a score of 559, while Manvi Jain completed the clean sweep for India, earning bronze with a score of 557. This marks India’s first-ever clean sweep in this event at the Junior World Championship. Shikha Chaudhary narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth with a score of 554, just one point ahead of Estonia’s Marja Kirss.
Suraj Sharma Wins Gold in Junior Men's Event
In the junior men’s 25m standard pistol event, Suraj Sharma clinched gold with a score of 571, outshining Poland's Ivan Rakistski, who took silver with a score of 568. Mukesh Nelavalli, who has already secured four gold medals in the championship, also shot 568 but settled for bronze after a countback. Other notable performances from India came from Harsimar Singh Rattha (565), Raajwardan Singh Patil (562), and Pradhyumn Singh (562), who placed seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.In the junior women’s 50m rifle prone event, Melvina Joel Gladson was the best-performing Indian, finishing 14th with a score of 617.5. Prachi Gaikwad (616.7), Khushi (615.1), Aadhya Agrawal (614.2), and Anoushka Thokur (611.9) placed 19th, 26th, 27th, and 35th, respectively.
In the team competition for the junior women's 50m rifle prone event, the combined scores of Melvina, Prachi, and Anoushka (1846.1) secured a sixth-place finish for India. India’s performance at the ISSF Junior World Championship continues to strengthen their position at the top of the global shooting ranks.
