Indian Women's Hockey Team skyrockets to 6th place in FIH World rankings

The Indian women's hockey team is celebrating a meteoric rise in the FIH World Rankings. Their recent triumph at the Women's Asian Champions Trophy 2023 in Ranchi, following their bronze win at the Hangzhou Asian Games, has catapulted them to the sixth position. With 2368.83 points, they've reclaimed their best-ever ranking, last held in June 2022 during the FIH Pro League.

In a thrilling finale, the Indian women's team secured victory against Japan, adding to their already impressive journey. Despite their achievements, the Dutch team, reigning Olympic and World Champions, maintains their top position with 3422.40 points, while Australia, Argentina, Belgium, and Germany follow closely in the rankings. England, Spain, New Zealand, and China round up the top ten.

This surge in world ranking is a major boost as the team gears up for the upcoming FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers, set for January 13 to 19, 2024, in Ranchi. Their competitors will include Germany, New Zealand, Japan, Chile, the United States, Italy, and the Czech Republic as they aim to secure a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Hockey India President, Padma Shri Dr. Dilip Tirkey, commended the Indian women's hockey team, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. He expressed optimism about the team's future performance, especially with the addition of mental conditioning coach Peter Haberl.

Hockey India Secretary General, Bhola Nath Singh, echoed the sentiments, praising the team's exceptional achievement and emphasizing the opportunity to showcase India's strength in the upcoming FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers.
