India kicked off their ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2026 campaign in spectacular fashion at Edgbaston, Birmingham, with a crushing 64-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan.
After being put into bat, India posted a solid 170/6, anchored by Smriti Mandhana’s elegant 68 off 44 balls and a late, blistering cameo from Richa Ghosh (34 off 17).
However, the day belonged to Deepti Sharma, who produced a masterclass in spin bowling.
Returning career-best figures of 5/10, she dismantled the Pakistani lineup and became the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20 International history, surpassing Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong with 166 wickets.
Pakistan struggled against India’s disciplined spin attack and was eventually bundled out for 106 in 17 overs.
What a way to start the tournament!
