Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan single-handedly took the Proteas to the cleaners with a 161-run partnership in the second ODI at JSCA International Stadium, Complex in Ranchi on Sunday. The Shikhar Dhawan-led side had a tough opening when it was at 48 for 2 having lost both its openers, Shubman Gill and the skipper Dhawan. But the steadying hands of the Iyer-Kishan duo made the 278-run total set by the South African side seem like a pittance.
Iyer scored 113 off 111 balls completing a well-deserved century while still standing on the crease as Ishan fell at 93 giving India the comfortable cushion of 209 on the board.
Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks sure played their role to bring up the sizeable total of 278 for 7 in 50 overs for South Africa but the Indian bowling side under the capable hands of Mohammed Siraj was giving him as tough a time at the pitch as there could be.
The 1st ODI was won by South Africa by 9 runs and South Africa took a lead by winning the first match in the 3-match series last Thursday in Ekana Cricket Stadium Lucknow. Now the 3rd ODI tomorrow at the Arun Jaitly stadium in New Delhi will be the deciding match for the series win.
