India defeated Australia by 99 runs in the second ODI, registering their highest ODI score against Australia and taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore on Sunday.
After being asked to bat first, India acquired 399 with centuries from Shubman Gill and Shreyas Gill. KL Rahul made 52 off 38 balls, Ishan Kishan contributed an 18-ball 31, while Suryakumar Yadav needed just 37 balls to score 72 after reaching his half-century in 24 deliveries. After the second rain delay of the day, the revised target for Australia was set at 317 runs in 33 overs.
The most expensive bowler for Australia was Cameron Green, who conceded 103 runs in ten overs while taking two wickets. Sean Abbott, who took 91 runs in his 10 overs. The most economical bowler was Josh Hazlewood, who conceded 62 runs in ten overs and took the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikhwad.
Men in Blue concluded their innings with a remarkable total of 399 for five in 50 overs. This achievement surpassed their previous record of 383 for six, established in Bengaluru in 2013. Notably, this marked India's seventh instance of scoring over 350 runs against Australia in One-Day Internationals, and it also stands as their seventh-highest overall score in ODIs.
However, India won the match against Australia by 99 runs after the Aussies were dismissed for 217. Ashwin and Jadeja took 3 wickets each, and India has now won the series with one game to go.
Interestingly, India's highest ODI score of all time is 418/5, which they scored against the West Indies at the same venue in 2011. Virender Sehwag scored a double-hundred (219) in that match, and India won by 153 runs.
